KWV 10 presents Chaka Khan for one night only
If you have been itching to get back out there in the social scene after a cold and grey winter grab your diary and mark the 20th of September. KWV 10 is proud to bring you Chaka Khan for one night only at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg.
Well known in the music industry for the past three decades she has made a deep-seated and lasting impression on the music scene. Chaka Khan, who is renowned for her unforgettably distinctive trademark vocal style, sings with unrelenting passion, honest emotion and authenticity. The supporting local artists Siphokazi, Judith Sephuma and Hip Hop Pantsula, spectacular performers in their own right will create a prelude to Chaka’s performance.
Siphokazi is described as a rare gem in the South African music industry and displays her vocal expertise in the way she comfortably fuses soul, Afro-jazz and gospel in her music. This earned her two wins at the 2007 SAMA awards for best newcomer and best adult contemporary African album. Sephuma is celebrated as one of SA’s best female vocalists and has been awarded Best Jazz Artist at the Metro FM Awards. Sephuma is not only a singer and performer but has shown her major songwriting talent by co-composing more than half the repertoire on her New Beginnings album.
Hip Hop Pantsula (HPP) needs no introduction to the market. He believes in the power of music and staying fresh, current and creative. This is evident in his work as he performs hip-hop, won a SAMA award for Best Rap Album and performed at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. HHP were nominated for Best African Act at the 2007 MTV Europe Music Awards.
Thandisizwe Ncalu, Senior Brand Manager: KWV Spirits SA Division is delighted with the line up they have secured for the evening. Ncalu says, “We carefully selected the performers to ensure a memorable evening for everyone who attends”. The irrepressible Phat Joe has been selected as the MC for the concert. Joe presents the Phat Joe Morning Show on Kaya FM, weekdays from 5am to 9am.
